I prefer to buy produce directly from the grower at Farmer’s Market, ensuring that I am purchasing the best freshest and most local produce possible.
The preferred store to shop from mid-week for essential fruit, vegetables, cheeses, condiments and cold cuts is Harris Farm…it is has such a wide range of products and the standard and freshness is superior compared to the large scale local supermarket products.
…..What produce will you be cooking with this month/season?
I will be using…..
local apples from the Blue Mts in apple and rhubarb crumble
Brussel sprouts sautéed with speck
Roasted carrots with cumin seeds in a warm salad of spinach leaves and Binnorie Feta
Creamy celeriac mash with salmon fillet
Zucchini flowers stuffed with creamy ricotta, parmigano and fresh herbs
Celery, smoked chicken, dill and apple salad
Corn and capsicum fritters with crisp pancetta and guacamole
Baking eggplant in moussaka
Shaving baby fennel into salads with red radishes, dill and serving with seared salmon
Roasting fragrant quince with star anise and cinnamon, served with Gippsland creamy yoghurt and amaretto biscuits
Preserving my huge bowl of local lemons
Baking pears in an upside-down gingerbread cake
…and last but certainly not least, figs if I can restrain myself to not eat them straight from the fruit bowl I will be baking them wrapped in pancetta, stuffed with gorgonzola and served on a bed of rocket leaves dressed with aged balsamic, or perhaps serve the figs in a frangipani tart with caramelised walnuts
